It seems like every day we hear about a new TV or movie adaptation of a video game. Currently, there are over 40 of them in "production"—which doesn't really mean much until something concrete comes along that proves it can be done well. After all, we all remember when an entire Concord universe was planned, right? Yeah, about that...
Mass Effect is known for its deep, engaging stories, so it does seem like the perfect candidate for a TV series—provided it gets the proper budget and attention where it’s needed. Recently, a writer on the show shared some interesting tidbits on what we can expect from this adaptation.
“In the most recent Halo series, people were surprised by how much screen time was given to Master Chief’s Master Cheeks,” Sarah Daniel told us on Thursday. “It was interesting because every fan seemed to hate it, especially since the show had almost nothing to do with the games. But that’s what I love about these productions—we can take something people love and completely f**k it up by putting our own sh***y spin on it.” Sarah confidently explained.
I’ve never played Mass Effect, or any game for that matter,” she continued. “I googled an image of Wrex and then used my arts degree to come up with the perfect story based on what I personally think. And what I think is… we need to see what this Wrex thing looks like naked.” The production has been given a budget of $120 million, with $60 million of that going to a realistic Wrex suit that is 100% anatomically correct. The rest of the budget, naturally, will go to marketing.
We then asked Sarah what else we can expect from the show besides Wrex’s, uh, assets. She told us, “I want to explore Shepard’s reaction to this man. Not just in a romantic way, but in a ‘I am watching you from the hotel cuck chair’ kind of way, y’know? It’s going to be beautiful.” At that point, we decided to end the interview early, feeling like we'd heard enough to last a lifetime.
Unsurprisingly, most of the residual sales from the Mass Effect series actually come from Garrus and Wrex body pillows, so maybe we’re the ones in the wrong. But who knows?
