Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been out for a while now, and it’s been just as amazing as fans hoped it would be. The game learned from the mistakes of its predecessor, impressing fans by toning down the excessive anime grunting that made the original so hard to take seriously. But, as it turns out, this game isn’t done surprising fans just yet. One gamer has discovered a secret cutscene that was never before revealed. Let us explain.
In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, your dialogue choices with your party members affect your relationship with them, unlocking different cutscenes depending on who you’re closest to at the time. These can range from friendly hangouts to romantic moments. However, it turns out there’s one more cutscene that can only be unlocked if you know exactly how. A player must first connect a PS4 to their PS5 with a USB-to-USB cable while running Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the PS5. Then, they need to visit Redtube.com on their PS4, searching for any video with "Tifa" in the title. Here’s the crucial part: your volume must be set to full. Let the video play out in its entirety, and after it finishes, the secret cutscene will start.
The cutscene opens with a long, lingering shot of Cloud from behind, deeply focused on rubbing his sector 7 SOLDIER sausage. As the camera zooms in, it’s revealed that Cloud is holding a picture of Tifa in a bathing suit from an earlier mission in his other hand. The scene continues for an excruciating 26 minutes as the SOLDIER serum makes it incredibly difficult for Cloud to finish. And it seems this is where all those anime grunts from the first game ended up—because they’re all here, loud and proud.
We reached out to Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, for a comment on this discovery. "Finally! We were starting to worry no one would find this!" Hamaguchi said. "A lot of people have been asking us about the canonical date in Rebirth’s storyline, and we’ve been pretty vague about it. Now that someone has uncovered this, we can confirm it. He's got all these incredibly attractive women throwing themselves at him throughout the story, but he's clearly got no game. Logically, this is what would really happen in the FF7 universe. Everyone would think Cloud is a huge weirdo, and no one would want to hang out with him outside of work."
Hamaguchi went on to say that the decision to include this secret moment was made early in development. "In a world full of monsters, magic, and materia, we had to find a way to make Cloud relatable to the average gamer. So, putting him in a cold room alone ‘jerkin' it’ to Tifa’s picture seemed like the best way to connect with our audience. Square Enix wouldn’t let us feature it outright, so we had to hide it as an Easter egg."
Hamaguchi encouraged players to keep looking for even more hidden content, teasing that there’s plenty more to uncover. “You can even beat up Chadley and call him a ‘fat nerd,’” Hamaguchi added. “Oh, and there’s also an additional flashback cutscene of Cloud and Sephiroth in the communal showers at Shinra. Yes, we know what you’re thinking. And yes, we confirm even Sephiroth’s balls are silver too.”
