Local gamer Johnny Hopkins admits his mistake after deciding to finally introduce his girlfriend to the first-person shooter Halo: Combat Evolved. "She always said she liked games and had played tons of them. She asked me what a good game for us to play would be, and I said Halo because it’s one of the best games I know," Johnny told the media on Wednesday afternoon. "What I didn’t realize was that when she said she plays games, what she really meant was that she mostly plays the Monopoly mobile game and Wii Sports twice when she was 7."

Johnny insists he has nothing against mobile games but views them more as a way to pass time rather than experience something more substantial that can usually only be found on a dedicated system. "Walk. Stop. Look. Walk. Stop. Look. Walk. Stop. Look. That’s all I kept seeing in my peripherals during splitscreen," he said. "It quickly became very apparent that this was not going to be a fun experience."

Johnny went on to say that the tutorial for Halo: Combat Evolved alone took more than 45 minutes to complete. "She spent more time looking down at her controller, trying to find the 'A' button, than she did looking at the screen. Honestly, it would have been easier to teach my grandmother how to write in C++."

Shortly after the tutorial, Johnny’s girlfriend walked away from the game in a rage, complaining she couldn’t figure out where she was, what she was looking at, and that it was "too hard." In reality, she was walking into a corner for most of that time.

Johnny made a final comment, noting, "I can’t believe I misjudged this so badly. I just wanted her to experience what gave me so much joy when I first started gaming. Sometimes I forget I’ve been doing this every week for the past 24 years of my life. Maybe next time I could try something a little easier… or maybe I should introduce her to Elden Ring to show her what an actual 'too hard' game really looks like."
